What a busy Saturday!

Last Saturday, I learnt to make Tiramisu! Christina was so kind to teach us how to make this sweet non-alcoholic version of the very famous Italian dessert! We had discussed it after our boxercise sessions and we have decided to head to Dulcy's place to learn the ropes!
Me, being the "not-very-domesticated" woman, just went along to have fun! Hahaha.... Although I have always wanted to learn baking and making sweet stuffs, I have never been enthusiastic enough to start! I only ogled at lovely pictures of cupcakes and muffins and other sweet treats!

So there I was at Bedok Central with Christina and Dulcy - 15mins late (as usual) buying stuffs for the tiramisu! We met at NTUC but after 15mins we left the place with nothing! We were looking high and low for the sponge fingers which are absolutely needed for tiramisu. There wasn’t any mascarpone cheese too! So, since Bedok has 3 supermarkets and a Phoon Huat outlet, we thought we could get it elsewhere lah. So we went to Phoon Huat to try to see if there were stuffs there we need and luckily, there were the mascarpone cheese but unfortunately, the sponge fingers were sold out! Damns! We thought we can have better luck at Shop & Save next door but no sponge fingers in sight! We let Dulcy go back first with some of the stuff we had gotten and we continue in search of the sponge fingers!

I had to brave myself to go to Seng Song (there is always an over-powering fishy stench at the entrance) to look.

Nope. Non existence.

Went back to NTUC to try to look for alternatives. By then, we had wasted 1 hour walking the whole of Bedok Central! Then, I gave Boo an SOS call! I remembered that there was a Cold Storage outlet at Causeway Point and most likely Cold Storage should have it! We were so desperate til we were almost getting biscuits as alternatives!

Boo immediately rushed out of the house to help us get the sponge fingers and took a cab from Woodlands to Bedok to make sure we weren’t waiting too long for it! That’s very nice of my boyfriend! Hehehe!!!!

Before Boo arrived, we started with the mixture 1st. As I had promised Christina not to reveal the recipe for this tiramisu, I will only show bits and pieces!

The Ingredients!
Our cups of instant coffee.
I seriously don't recommend this.
Buy Kopi-O from the kopitiam is better. Eggs!
Add in the sugar!
The girls!
Add in the mascarpone into the egg and mix well!
In less then a minute, my mixture is soooo smooth....
The Sponge fingers!
Boo is our saviour!
Soak the fingers with coffee!
Don't put too much if not will end up like my soggy tiramisu!
2nd layer of fingers~!

Done!
Put in the fridge to chill for 8 hours minimum!

I left my dessert in Dulcy's fridge and collected it the next day cos I was meeting Kristy and Edwin for dinner! Yay! We can see baby Chelsea again!
Dinner at Pasta de Waraku at Marina Square
The many faces of Chelsea!
I looked so tired!
Chelsea looked very stressed!
Kristy is looking real happy!
After shopping, we need some refreshment!
At Changing Appetite
Chelsea was biting the table so her mama took a piece of baby wipes to wipe it and gave it to her and she continue wiping from there! So funny! Here she is, wiping her mama's arm!

Daddy Edwin craves for Mudpies!
He initially wanted Coffee Club's mudpie but too bad they closed early!

Boo ordered a brownie!
Guys and their sweet tooth!

See, Boo is always capable of making kids imitating him.

My best friend and her Joy!

peek-a-boo!!!

Bleh!
Auntie Celine and Baby Chelsea shared a funny moment together!
Oh what a busy and fulfilling saturdays with all my good friends with me!
So, how about the tiramisu?
The Verdict:
My first-ever tiramisu after testing, wasn’t as good as it looked. It was a bit too sweet and the sponge fingers were too soggy. I think I’d prefer the alcoholic version and maybe not use instant coffee as there wasn’t really much coffee taste to it.

Boo took a bite and gave me a “please-don’t-ask-me-to-have-another-bite” smirk. My mama says she likes it! Think she is giving me face lah!

I tried another recipe last Wednesday when I had the day off. I searched for some recipe online and saw a few easy ones and I combined them together, use a different method and made an alcoholic one!
I like it better then the 1st although I need to add more liquor and use stronger coffee!
I am thinking of making 1 more tonight or tomorrow! Will take pictures and share the recipe!

I'm busy with........

Selling Bras (and panties, of course)!!!!

Usually 3 weeks before the Lunar New Year, we have to help out at our stores or counters and this year is no exception. Every year, the days differ. Like last year, I had to work for 2 whole weeks at the Bedok shop including the weekends. For this year, it’s just the weekends - Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from the 9th of Jan onwards right to the eve. So my last weekend was at Metro Paragon and I was quite bored as there weren’t many customers during the day time. Not as busy as Bedok’s heartland crowd where everyone is dying for your attention!!!

I’m so not looking forward for the next 2 weekends. *SIGH*

Well, well….. Just have to get it over and done with! Meanwhile, I should indulge myself with lots of retail therapy! Hahaha! Shop shop shop!!!!

We were invited to Dulcy’s love nest for her house-warming party on the 1st Saturday of 2009! Here are some pics!

Corine and Simon were the 1st to arrive!
Surprising Wenn was quite early too!!! Hahahaha!

Dulcy's Ikea Xmas tree!
The top looked slightly bare though....

Our gift to them!
I had spent the entire morning planning and making this "house" envelope!
I like the result!

Dulcy suggested we should all mark our cups so we will not replace them over and over again.... Good way to save some cups!
Nana even went to the extend to mark the wine glasses with tapes and name written over it.
Hahahaha.....
Guess whose hand is this!
As I was trying to take a picture of all the food, Shiying reached out for her drink at the same time! Hahhaha!

My beloved PC Girls!
Happy Bellies!

The Ikea cake tray is very pretty lor!
Prefect for holding pretty cuppies like these!
I am so wanting one for myself too!
Cuppies from Coffee Bean!
Dunno what was Simon talking about....
He was like so excited!

Vintage cabinet!
This 40 year-old cabinet was from Ka Chong's house before they moved it to their love nest! Very nice! But I told Dulcy that the iron in the middle is quite an eye-sore lah!
Huhuhu....

Dulcy wants us to be considerate to each other.
Heehee....

Very effective and cost-effient way to keep your stuff!
Dulcy kept some of her clothes and other stuffs in these wine cases!
Her hubs, Ka Chong, works in a wine place so he got these for free!
Good right!!!!

I took a proper pic as keepsake!

Inside of the card!

Cupcakes time!

I pretend to pick my nose when I saw Boo's still snapping away!
Hahaha!
Nana, taking a pic of her cupcake with her iphone.

Did I mention that she just got engaged?!?! Huhuhu....

The boys were left to entertain themselves!
wahaha!
Boo as usual, cannot take his hands of his DS!

Sunday with Boo

Asked Boo to pose and he did this.
Irritating lei!

I think he was mimicking me!
Act cute! Hahahaha!!!

The new outdoor tables are nice but it can be quite a nuisance if things started dropping thru the gaps! The gaps where quite big lah, I can imagine bits of cakes dropping thru the gaps! Wahahah!

Me enjoying the classique chocolat cake and lime tea!
Yummy!!!

Boo didn't feel very well so I almost finish the whole slice of cake to myself!

No wonder now I so fat!

The lime tea was goooood! I ordered it because it was good for colds and I wanted to force Boo to drink it!

Boo's calling the restaurant to check if we could leave the cake in the fridge.

We had like 2 hours to kill before our appointment!

The cake couldn't be out for more than 45 mins!

This is where we'll be celebrating Boo's mum's birthday later!
Hokkien food!

The weather was just nice for photos!

Wah! So many aircons!

It is so not environmentally-friendly lor!
1 shophouse need so many split systems can you imagine how many there are in the whole area?! Oh my goodness!

Boo as Mr Fei Yu Qing....
We walked down this mini park at Ann Siang Hill.

Felt a little wierd cos the end leads the the back of the shophouses on Amoy St.

We were strolling at the perimeters of Far East Square and we spotted a museum.
The Fuk Tak Chi museum is free for everyone to go see!

I like this big model of a junk.

Hope my 2009 will be as soon sailing as the message!

Rediffusion box.
My mum used to have 1 at my old place and she would listen to it everyday.
Boo's no stranger to this, he used to do recordings for Rediffusion from a very young age.
We were saying that maybe I have heard him before when we were young.

huhu....

"huh"?!

We were walking along China Square and saw Don's Pie and Boo was hungry, so we went across the street in search of some nice in-between snacks.
It was like 30 mins away from meeting his family for dinner and he finally cannot tahan his hunger pangs and bought a pie to eat!

"Wahhhhhhh........"
Boo's exaggerated expression again! Hahaha!

Boo's really to attack!!!

Look at the thick mashed potato covering the pie....
It was really very delicious but rather oily.
At $5.40 for a pie, I think it's a little too pricey for that size.

But it was very delicious lah.
Do try!

Another Year came....

Happy New Year everyone!
There seems to be alot of plans for 2009. I really hoped it will be a good year for me. Looking back, last year has been smooth-sailing for me in terms of work, relationships and health despite a really, really bad start. However, the problems haven't been solved. Yah. My brother is still jobless, bumming and living off me.
I have to plan my escape route.
Run.
As fast as I can.
Holding my mum close to me.
Sigh........
Nevertheless! I will keep my spirits up! It's just the start of the year!
There are still 363 days to go!
Here's wishing all of you
A GREAT year ahead!
All the best in whatever you do!
